The One With The Big Day

What a day!

Yesterday we had our first doctor appointment for baby Brunson. They couldn't hear the heartbeat, so they sent me this morning for an ultrasound. We figured that meant we just weren't quite as far along as we thought we'd be. Rick had to miss some work for the first doctor appointment, so I brought along his sister who might just be the most excited person about this baby. She LOVES the baby already & really wanted to come to an appointment. I am glad she came with me. The ultrasound tech said we should be about 9 weeks and 6 days. They took a picture for us (I took a cell picture of the already not so clear ultrasound picture, so sorry for the bad quality) and Brittany, Rick's sister, made a bunch of copies so we could put them up in the bathroom, on the fridge, in my office, etc. She's too cute.

The baby's head is to the left, and it's bum and toes are to the right. I will try to put a more clear copy up when I get home. It had a very strong heartbeat of 188. It was really neat to see it in there. It's really real.

Then to top our day off, we just signed on our condo. We will be renting it out for now, but it feels good to have one. Especially since we got it for such a steal.

The One Where The Family Went Camping

Another weekend has come and gone. Thank heaven it was a 3 day weekend! My family all went camping at Flaming George. Although the weather didn't behave as much as we would have wanted, it was SO nice to be with the family. We had all of my nieces & nephews and all of my siblings, except for one (who is in training for the border patrol), but his wife and kids were able to make it. I actually didn't take any pictures (I have been really bad about taking pictures of my life this summer), mostly because of the weather. But I am so grateful for the time we were able to spend together. My parents were so nice and drove Rick and I up. It was fun to have that extra time with my parents, too. I miss them, now that I don't see them as much as I did before I got married.

The One With The Wives Tales . . .

Here's yet another post about being pregnant! :D

I have been thinking about if it will be a boy or a girl. We will for sure find out when we are able to. I have been surprised at how many people have asked me that.

Rick surprised me. When we were dating and first married, I had to beg Rick to "give" me one girl. I told him the rest can be boys, I just want one girl to be my friend (my mom and I are best friends). He finally agreed. Once we found out we were expecting, he said he wanted a girl. I couldn't believe it! About a month later, he bought a mini football and decided he wanted to give that to a boy. Silly. I'd like a girl to dress up, but of course would be happy to have either (or twins... call me crazy... but that's a whole other post...). We have had an easy time picking out a girl name (that came instantly) but the boy names haven't been sticking or fitting. I'm afraid if it's a boy we'll never pick a name. :)

I have heard some wives tales that tell you if you are having a boy or a girl or not. These are the one's I found online, or had friends tell me. Some of them are too soon to tell for me. Do you know of any more? I want to hear, if so! Take a guess on what I am having based on these signs.

Girl:
    • You had morning sickness early in pregnancy (No)
    • Your baby's heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute (I'll find out next week!)
    • You are carrying the weight in your hips and rear (Too soon to tell, but as of right now it feels like no...)
    • Your left breast is larger than your right breast (Sadly, I have to admit this one is true...)
    • Your hair develops red highlights (Is that what happened to my hair! Maybe!)
    • You are carrying high (Too soon to tell)
    • Your belly looks like a watermelon (Too soon to tell)
    • You are craving sweets (Yep!)
    • You are craving fruit (Yep!)
    • You crave orange juice (Yep!)
    • You don't look quite as good as normal during pregnancy (This is a tough one... I would say I don't, though)
    • You are moodier than usual during pregnancy (Yes, poor Rick...)
    • Your face breaks out more than usual (Yes, thank heaven my mother-in-law is an esthetician)
    • You refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread (Meh...)
    • Your breasts have really blossomed! (Yes!)
    • Your pillow faces south when you sleep (My pillow is at the West end of our bed...)
    • Your urine is a dull yellow color (I think that's right... but I just thought it was because I was going more often)
    • You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves from side to side (I'll have to try that one...)
    • You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an odd number (Odd!)

    Boy:
    • You didn't experience morning sickness in early pregnancy (Nope!)
    • Your baby's heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute (Not sure yet...)
    • You are carrying the extra weight out front (Too soon to tell, but so far that's where it has been)
    • Your belly looks like a basketball (Too soon to tell)
    • Your areolas have darkened considerably (I think so... I need to check!) :)
    • You are carrying low (Too soon to tell)
    • You are craving salty or sour foods (Nope... sweet!)
    • You are craving protein -- meats and cheese (That's a tough one... maybe)
    • Your feet are colder than they were before pregnancy (They seem warmer, if anything, but it is Summer)
    • The hair on your legs has grown faster during pregnancy (I think so...)
    • Your hands are very dry (They are normal)
    • Your pillow faces north when you sleep (My pillow is at the West end of our bed...)
    • Dad-to-be is gaining weight, right along with you (That's a hard one. Too soon to tell)
    • Pregnancy has you looking better than ever (Meh, probably not)
    • Your urine is bright yellow in color (I don't think so)
    • Your nose is spreading (What does that mean?)
    • You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves in circles (I'll have to try that one...)
    • You are having headaches (Minor ones)
    • You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an even number (Odd!)

    Others:

    • Draino crystals........ if it turns blue its a girl if it turns brown its a boy. Toxic chemicals be careful and mix outside. Works just like a pregnancy test.
    • The Chinese Gender Chart: (see below) Simply find the age of the mother at the time of conception on the chart below and then follow across to the month the baby was conceived to find the predicted gender. Although this chart is said to have a success rate of over 90 percent, keep in mind that this is solely for entertainment purposes. (May & 22 years old)

The One With A Little Bit Of Back Ground . . .

Well, I will try to not post EVERY post about the baby, but it seems to be my life right now. :)
I thought I would give you a little back ground history about this baby. I won't tell everything, I will condense where possible, and try not to get too personal. :)

Well, as you know, Rick and I were married at the end of March. By the 2nd week of being married, all I could think about was having a baby. I didn't necessarily want one yet, but it was all I could think about, and thus all I could talk about. Poor Rick. :) I really did feel bad for doing that to Rick (talking about it so much so soon). Our plan was to wait a year or two, then to start trying. We felt that we needed that time (even though we had been together for 2 years) to form a good foundation on our marriage and to get as prepared as possible for a family.

Not to get too religious on you, but I have had God tell me several times throughout my life that my job here was to be a mom. I am only assuming that is why I constantly thought about being a mom so soon. I hope, though, that this doesn't mean I will have a "soccer team" (as my friends from student government in college say...)

So... after days and weeks of me talking about us having a baby, I finally talked myself out of thinking about it SO much. And, I am sure, that is when we concieved. Haha. :)

I thought I was pregnant by the middle of May because I was nautious, my girls were growing, and I had some other symptoms that I forget what they were (I had more symptoms then than I do now), along with other special experiences that I had. But my tests kept saying negative, so I just forgot about it.

On my birthday (the end of June), my mom took me out to lunch. I felt really bad, but I was really grumpy. Before we left, we had this conversation:
Me: "but good news is, my girls are still growing!"
Mom: "are you sure you aren't pregnant?"
Me: "yeah, I am sure!"

I went back to work, and realized that I was late. I went to Target on my way home and got a pack of 3 tests. Since I made a big deal out of thinking I was pregnant last month, I didn't even tell Rick. We ate dinner, then started getting ready for the gym. I took the test, then went to put it in the drawer. I figured that it would just be negative so I would check it when I got back from the gym. Well, as soon as I went to put it in the drawer, a big blue line instantly showed up. I stared at it for a while, then I took it into Rick without saying anything. I was speechless. I could not believe it. Neither could Rick. :) So, I took another test after the gym & then one more the next morning, so that we could be sure.

Now that it has happened, we couldn't be more excited. Rick even bought a baby football for the baby. I am glad we have 7 months to prepare.

I am so excited to be able to spend the weekend of the 24th with my family! We don't get to do things often enough together. I am sure I will have some pictures to post.

The One Where I Am 9 Weeks Pregnant

Dear baby,
I am still in shock that I have you growing inside of me! You are about 1 inch long from head to rump. You are 9 weeks, and I go to see the doctor in 2 more weeks. I am so excited to hear your heart beat!
So far, you've been great to me and daddy! You haven't caused any problems, and I am most grateful for no morning sickness!! We are so excited to get to meet you in February. I think about you constantly. I am already protective of you, and want to give you the best. Your dad and I almost don't talk about anything but you and our future with you. You have certainly caused some excitement in our little family.

Love You Always,
Mommy :)

The One With The BIG Announcement!

Well, the cat is out of the bag! For those of you who haven't heard yet...

We are expecting!! I won't see my doctor till later this month, but I believe I am 8 weeks along. I have been SO VERY lucky and have hardly been sick at all! I have mostly just been exhausted.
We had to take the test 3 times because we were in shock.

I just thought my girls were finally growing... you know, late bloomers?? :)

My life has changed so much in the past 6 months... even the past month (we are under contract for a condo too...)!

I'll post more info later!
