The One With Quirky Monday - Things That Melt My Heart

Oh, Ms. Paige.  She is so sweet and adorable.  She has been doing things lately that make my heart happy, so once again, I decided I better post about them before I forgot about them forever (thank you mommy brain...)
-----
Sometimes I call Lindsey 'Lindsey Lou Who'.  I taught Paige how to say that & all of a sudden she started calling me 'Mommy Lou Who' and Rick 'Dadda Lou Who'.  It's the best.  The following are my favorite times she uses those names:
One morning she came in and said, "oh, good morning Dadda Lou Who" in a very adult, matter of fact way (she's never said good morning to us before that day).
Sometimes Paige still thinks that I need to come and get her out of bed after naps (she doesn't need it in the morning anymore, so I don't know why she still does this for naps...).  I heard her talking after she woke up from a nap one day & as I was finishing what I was doing she yelled as loud as she could, "Mommy Lou Who!!!".
It makes me smile every time she calls us that.
-----
Paige is not much of a touchy-feely kind of girl.  I often have to trick her into hugging me, or sometimes I make it a routine for her to hug me since she's such a routine girl (like I tell her she has to give me wake up hugs after naps and before she goes potty).  She was crying the other day (I assume she got hurt) and as she walked up to me she said in a sad voice, "momma, hug me".  Well melt my heart why dontcha... How can I NOT hug her in a situation like that?!
-----
As I posted about before, I've been trying to get Paige to recognize her name & learn how to write it.  For Mother's Day & Teacher Appreciation Day, we gave cards where she told me what to write.  I thought this would be cute & good practice if she tried to sign her name at the bottom of them.  I figured I'd have to help her, but she surprised me & wrote the 'P' all by herself.... for the first time without the dotted lines to guide her.  I was so proud of her.  I was really excited that it could be on the Mother's Day cards for the first time ever & that it would be a fun present.

We also sent out some more mail to some family members & I told her we needed to write her name at the bottom... once again she surprised me and wrote her whole name almost completely by herself.  I love it when she surprises me like that!
Isn't little kid handwriting just the best?!

Quirky Monday: The One With Things You Should Know About Paige If You're Gonna Be Her BFF

Last week I did things you should know about ME if you're gonna be my BFF, so this week it's Paige's turn.
---
Things You Should Know About Paige If You're Gonna Be Her BFF

She talks about her grandmas EVERY day.  For some reason she thinks insists she has 5 grandmas. (She has 3, plus 4 great-grandmas).  She asks almost every day to go to grandma's house.  She often talks about grandma's dogs.

She NEEDS things in an orderly fashion/routine.

She counts to 7, but she skips the number 4.

She caught onto Santa this past Christmas & she still talks about him.  In fact, she still talks about him and often thanks Heavenly Father for him in her prayers.

She jokes with a straight face, but she's also a very serious person. (I didn't know kids could be so serious!) She has such a dry sense of humor already.

5 is her favorite number. (5 grandma's, 5 more songs at nap time...)

She loves pretending to be a dog.

She's a pretty patient & yet persistent 3 year old.

I'm so glad when daddy comes home is her favorite song.  She often asks me to play it on the computer over and over & each time we lay her down she asks me to sing some version of it (I'm so glad when ama comes home, Jerilyn comes home, Itney comes home, lalasey comes home, hohoho comes home, etc.).  Side note: My favorite is when she wants me to sing I'm so glad when mommy comes home because then she does all of the actions on me & gives me the best great big kiss ever.

She really, really likes it when someone sits next to her while she is on the potty.  Oh yeah, and she would sit there all day if you would let her.

She's pretty good at sharing.

She has always slept more than other kids her age.  I love it.

She LOVES to help.  Especially with laundry & dishes.

She's a daddy's girl.  Through & through.  She was from the minute she was born, too.  I can't explain it other than I could just see it
---
I would take a turn for Rick & Lindsey, but Z is a little young to do this & Rick... well, I know Rick well enough that he wouldn't want a post all about him.  :)  Oh yeah, and I love him enough not to do it.

Quirky Monday: The One With Things You Should Know About Me If We're Gonna Be BFF

One of the blogs I follow has done a couple of posts called Things You Should Know About Me If We're Gonna Be BFF.  I liked it both times, so I decided to do my own.  Especially since I post so much about my girls, I think it's time I took the stage ;)
--

When I am single, I can be wild & fun (& rather careless with spending my money)... when I am in a relationship, I am a homebody.

I tend to be lazy, but I recognize that & try to be more active because of it.

I have a love/hate relationship with bangs (on me).

I have addictions to Target, sugar, my cell phone & my pinterest app.  No joke.  Addicted.  I need rehab.  Well, I would if I had to stop them.

I really would love long hair, but my hair is so thin, it just doesn't look good.

I have the shortest toes you ever did see... and they look like they all got chopped off because they are all so close in length.

I hardly read books.  It's a super rare occasion when I pick up a book.  Did I mention my husband is writing a book?  His is one of the few I have read in the past 10 years.  In fact, besides reading the scriptures, in the past 10 years, I can count on 1 hand how many books I have read.  Maybe 2 hands, but it's pretty close to one hand.

I really like to spend money.  Especially when it's a good deal.  Like so much that it's possible it should be combined with my addictions above.

I love Target commercials.  (hahahahahaha, inside family joke, but it's still true!)

I have only have broken one bone... but I broke it 2 separate times.

Because of the house we are currently living in, I will forever be a gardening nerd.  (it has a huge garden with soil made of gold or something)

I think I am pretty darn funny sometimes, even though I know I think I am funnier than I really am.  I really don't care that other people don't think I am as funny as I am.  I just enjoy making myself laugh.  :)  Did that even make sense?

I like to be in the spotlight (not on a stage, just in smaller groups), Rick used to joke that I wanted kids so the attention could be on me.

The older I get, the more I realize I can be pretty OCD.

The thought didn't ever occur to me that I didn't have to match my socks when I put them away until I married Rick.

I'm terrified of heights.  I don't even like being on a bridge big enough for cars to drive on.  Although, I do pretty good on air planes... weird? Yeah.  Oh yeah, and I'm a big, big wuss when it comes to rides.  Like amusement park rides.  Except for Disneyland rides.  :)

I blog for journaling's sake, but I'm not complaining that some of my posts have been repinned a total of 600 times & counting... but who's keeping track of that?  ;)

I have dreams like once every 2 months that I have a loose tooth.

When I was younger I used to collect toy pigs (stuffed, banks, etc.) and umm.... panties.  Yeah, as much as I would like to brag, I'm not going to expound on that one on the internet...

I grew up as the baby of 6 kids, but the 5th child is 5 1/2 years older than I am, so I kind of got the best of both worlds - kind of only child & big family all at once.

I'm 5'7.5 inches... but it's just easier to say I'm 5'8" :)

I would be so scared (and I know I am crazy), but I would LOVE twins.

I often say things that sound a lot worse than I mean them.  Then I obsess in my head for a week or two being embarrassed that it sounded so bad.

I'm super indecisive.  I'm getting better, but I still would prefer that all of my decisions were made for me.

I thought of a lot more than I thought I would!  Next week I'll post Things You Should Know If You Are Gonna Be Paige's BFF.  :)

The One With Quirky Monday - 'Quirks I Love'

It's been a while since I did a quirky Monday post.  I keep thinking of funny things that Paige has been doing that I don't want to forget, so I thought I better do one again.

Why is it always so funny when kids say words that sound like swear words?  Here are some of the things she says, but I'll let you decide what naughty word it sounds like the most ;)
  • Paige says mouse bowl (referring to a Minnie mouse bowl she got for Christmas)
  • Zip
  • Down
  • (there are more, but I forget!!!!)  :(

Paige likes to tell us things we already know, and she likes to repeat it several times (especially if we don't respond the way she wants us to)

My phone makes a whistling sound when i get a message, and every time Paige says, 'Momma phone' & makes a whistling noise... every time.

Paige likes to take her time eating breakfast and going potty every morning. Like it takes over an hour to complete both of them.

Paige likes to tell us the order things are going to happen in. (When we are all done eating, we will take a nap, then play)

She's been a great big sister and likes to give Lindsey her binkie and throw away her diapers.

If i am ever not right next to my phone or my water, Paige will bring them to me.

Paige has a crazy good memory.  She's constantly telling me things that she remembers (especially if she's watched it on tv...).  The other day (when we were playing with her favorite toy, her play food) she reminded me that we went to go get donuts after she got an owie in her leg (a shot) at the doctors.  She was referring to when we got her flu shot... like in October or something.  I had forgotten all about that.

Paige is always telling us how many we have of something.  '2 mirrors', '3 heat vents', '3 grandmas'.

Every time we lay her down for a nap or bed, she has us turn around (as we are walking out) so she can show us that her eyes are closed (more like squinty).  So funny and cute.

She keeps getting more and more fun each day.  She loves to make us laugh by doing silly things.  I love that I can post them here so that I won't forget them completely.

The One With Quirky Monday - 'Quirks I Love'

Paige has been so much fun.  Part of the reason why I think she can be fun & cute is because of the funny things she does.  She's got some pretty unique quirks that make me love her even more.  Don't believe me... ask the dishes!

  • I showed Paige how to put her hands in her pockets a month or so ago.  Now she always is walking with her hands in her pockets.  It melts my heart... I love it!

  • Paige is & has always crossed her legs when sitting.  I thought it would go away when she was a baby, but boy, am I glad it hasn't.  I don't know why (I must be a mom), but it makes me smile every time.

  •   Whenever Paige sees a hat, she has to wear it.

  • Every night Paige has to tuck in her dolls & stuffed animals and give them all kisses.  She often sneaks more in, so sometimes the number of goodnight kisses is on the high side.

  • Paige loves to be tucked in, and I mean really tucked in, at night... arms and all  (she looks miserable in the picture, but I promise, she was just tired) :)

Oh, this girl is too cute.  I sure adore her.  I hope our new baby has some fun quirks too!

The One With Quirky Monday - 'Quirks I Love'

Paige has some of the cutest quirks possible.  I love her for having them & being her.  Today's Quirks I Love are mostly about Paige's funny fears.  Paige is kind of a chicken (she totally got that from me), and I'm okay with that.  I'd rather have a chicken child than a brave & exploratory child (is that a word?) that I have to watch even more carefully.  Does that make me a lazy parent??

Anywho... back to Paige.  She makes me laugh so much and lots of the time it's because of her fears.

  • Most recently I gave Paige her first bubble bath a month or so ago.  She was afraid of the bubbles coming her way.   Don't worry, now she loves them and asks for them every bath now.
Paige 'smiling pretty' in a bubble bath.  March 2012.

  • When extended family gives Paige a bath, they always want to squirt water in her face.  She always squirms & makes faces.  (I know, this might not be much of a fear, but it fit okay here... see below...)
  • Lots of months ago, I bought Paige this step stool so she could play her keyboard better.  She was afraid to get off of it without help from me.  Even though the step stool is like 5 inches tall, and she can hold onto the keyboard to support her.
  • Paige seems to be afraid of heights (just like me too!).  Every time someone puts her on their shoulders she gets a scared look in her eyes and frantically tries to find me to let me know she wants down.
  • Rick & I blew up a bunch of balloons for Paige to wake up to & play with on her birthday, but we ran out of hot air (believe it or not), and had a few balloons left over.  Rick has recently started blowing one of them up & letting the air blow back out onto her face.  She gets so excited when he starts blowing it up, but then she gets so scared when he points it to her face.  She's never seemed to like things in her face (see above), or people close to her face.  That's too intrusive to her bubble I guess.
  • The other day I was driving Paige home & she was whining (she's usually an angel in the car).  In order to distract her, I rolled down one of the back windows a crack.  She instantly was startled & made a scared face.  I'm laughing just thinking about it again.  Then, she kept pointing to the other back window (telling me she wanted me to roll that one down too.  I gladly obliged, and she did had the exact same reaction as she did with the first window.  We tried it again with dad in the car later & she did the exact same thing (asking for the second window and all).

*disclaimer... I know not all of these are quirks or even fears, but it seems like the best place to put them because Paige is so darn cute I don't want to forget about these things.

The One With Quirky Monday - 'Quirks I Love'

Paige has some of the funniest and cutest quirks out there.  It makes her her, and also me love her even more (and makes me laugh here and there).  I mostly want to post these memories so I don't forget them.  I started to write a short post about a couple of her quirks, but ended up with a much larger list than I ever imagined, so I decided to start a new weekly post about 'Quirks I Love'.  For now I plan on only writing about Paige, but who knows, maybe I'll add onto the list with quirks about myself or things for that matter.

  • Paige likes to do things exactly how they are supposed to be done/used.  This probably takes up the majority of her quirks.
  • For example, one time one of her Aunts played with her toys all crazy like (& not how Paige was used to playing with them) and Paige just didn't know what to do.  She  gave her aunt a really funny look & I think tried to stop her...
  • Paige also likes to have a bib on every time she eats.  Every now & then she will even want to double up (usually kids her age fight one bib!)...

  • Paige carries a duck & at least one purse around almost everywhere.  We try to keep the duck in the house, but she takes her purse every time we go somewhere.  I think ducky is her best friend (someone in our ward who was out of a job at the time bought it for Paige after one of her surgeries.  i thought that was so nice of her).

  • If she or I spill her food at the dinner table, she points at it until I clean it up...

She has been so much fun to get to know & watch grow.  I love that she is unique & that she makes me smile every single day.

Disclaimer: I know the term quirks is usually used negatively, but I truly adore these qualities about Paige.  Also, I know a couple of the things I write may be borderline quirks.  I just want to remember as much as I can about Paige, so this is the best place to fit them in.
